The Finnish price war in food continues this year.
Kesko announced yesterday that the K-stores lowers the price of two thousand products. Today both the S Group and the future Kesko acquisition, Suomen Lähikauppa, replies with similar measures.
A year ago announced both SOK and Kesko campaigns for cheaper food – with positive effects.
“Sales of domestic meat has increased by 2.8 million kilos in the S group, because we have been able to sell it even cheaper,” says S Group Managing Director Taavi Heikkinen.
Yesterday, Kesko came with the news that the 2000 items will have price reductions. Today announces the S Group further price fall on 400 products in the Prisma and S-market stores, and 200 products in Sale and Alepa.
According to S Group prices drop on customers’ requirements. The price cuts apply mainly to light and healthy food, according to the Group.
Also Suomen Lähikauppa, with Siwa and Valintatalo, states that the price of around 150 products falls in February.
Examples of products are dairy products, ready food products, vegetables, fruits and meat.
“It is beneficial for both consumers and the trade, if you succeed in lowering prices,” says Anne-Mari Paapio, Head of Trading at Suomen Lähikauppa.
