Lidl and Siwa steals Alko-stores from Kesko

Kesko is about to lose several Alko store locations to discount chains.
Yle reports about upcoming changes in eastern Finland.

According to Yle, The Alko-store next to K-Supermarket Petonen in Kuopio will be moved to a nearby Lidl-location. The same goes for City Market in Savonlinna, where Alko will change neighbor to Siwa. More relocations are expected.
”The decisions must be based on fair competition, creating equal possibilities equal for all grocery units”, Anna Maija Kämäläinen, regional manager for Alko in eastern Finland, tells Yle.
The government has demanded a more equal establishment strategy for Alko when it comes to choosing between Kesko,S-group and discount chains.
Kesko manager Jari Kuosmanen admits Alko’s withdrawal from their properties is harmful:
”We can’t estimate how much we will lose in percent. We’ve created synergies since we started accepting return bottles”
