Orkla to close down half of all factories

It’s not just the chips factory in Åland that is in danger.
Orkla wants to half the number of its 104 factories.

The past two years, 14 of Orkla’s factories has been closed down.
But the upcoming years, many more will disappear.
Orkla manager Peter A. Ruzicka tells Dagens Naeringsliv that the company has too many small factories with overlapping technology.
“We want fewer, larger, units so that we can invest in new technology and more efficient production,” he says.
He further says that the number of factories will be halved in the future. Closure rate will be one to three production units in the future.
“In each geographic area we’ll just have a factory by technology and the category,” states Peter A. Ruzicka.
