Strömpilen shopping centre to lose major chains to new Ikea centre

Several major brands are leaving the shopping center Strömpilen in Umeå.
The reason is that they move to Ikea’s new shopping center south of town.
“Our stores in the city and Ersboda have worked well but not Strömpilen,” says KappAhl’s Establishment Director Hans Jepson to Västerbotten-kuriren.

Citycon sold the shopping center to Niam last year. Rikard Henriksson, property manager at Niam says they’ve worked hard  to find a new retail mix since then.
In February and March closes at least eight chainshops. Lindex, KappAhl, MQ, Dressmann, Din Sko, Albrekt’s Guld, Hemtex and GameStop is on the list for relocation.

Rikard Henriksson also points out that several key players remain, including Ica, Systembolaget and Elgiganten that works well.
“Now it’s more about finding businesses and shops, maybe a little bigger, that fits with them and who may not have a place at Ikea or in the city,” he tells Västerbotten-Kuriren.
