Style index from Svensk Handel Stil shows that sales of clothing in the Swedish dealer channel, measured in comparable units and in current prices, rose 3.2 percent in February compared with the same month last year.
The corresponding figure for sales in shoe stores show an increase of 3.3 percent. So far this year, from January to February, sales of clothing increased by 3.1 percent. Footwear sales during the same period increased by 6.4 percent.
Svensk Handel Stil’s industry chairman Mikael Sandström notes that the fashion trade, despite a strong comparative month, had a good sales performance in February.
”However, we must keep in mind that February is the year’s smallest sales month with low gross profits and that trade was helped by a day of extra sales. Mars is a more interesting month, but sales are disadvantaged by the fact that Easter occurs during the month. The Easter holidays are generally worse for consumer durables, a fact overshadowed by retailers’ big weekend sale.
