Media Markt employees are forming union branches.
Consumer electronics chain’s notice has forced troubled employees to act.
But in some places, the staff is so overworked that the local union has closed.
Handelsnytt writes that the employees at Media Markt in Örebro gathered last week to form a local union branch.
“It has been on our mind for a while, but we haven’t made any actions. With the layoffs we felt like now is the time. Without a local union we will not have insight into the negotiations, “says Jonatan Tjäder who was elected as local president.
Handelsnytt’s research shows that the concerns are primarily related to reductions in working hours and more weekend working hours, and that many full-time services might disappear.
All workplaces are not mobilizing however. In Norrköping, a decision was made to close down the local union club a few weeks ago.
“We are exhausted,” said former president Lottie Fällman to Handelsnytt.
